Dr. Michael Furlong is one of the co-founders of Mosaic.
As a senior advisor and consultant, he is the main driving force behind
Mosaic's research vision as well as in deciding the future directions
of Mosaic's offerings. Dr. Furlong is also a Professor at the University
of California, Santa Barbara. He is the Program Leader of the Counseling/Clinical/School
Psychology Program and coordinator of the school psychology credential.
Dr. Furlong is one of the leading trainers of school psychologists in
the nation and, for the past 20 years, has been a strong advocate for
positive youth and family development through his committed involvement
in research, supervision, community service, and public policy. He is
the co-founder of the Center for School-Based Youth Development at the
University of California that promotes research related to positive youth
development and the development of valid strength-based measures for research
and clinical applications.
Dr. Furlong is a past-president of the California Association of School
Psychologists (CASP), and in 2001 received CASP's most prestigious honor--the
Sandra Goff Memorial Award for distinguished service and contributions
to the profession of school psychology. He serves as an Associate Editor
of Psychology in the Schools and the California School Psychologists.
With more than 200 professional publications to his credit, Dr. Furlong
also serves as an Associate Editor of Psychology in the Schools
and the California School Psychologist. He is on the editorial
boards of the Journal of Emotional and Behavioral Disorders and
The Journal of School Violence. In addition, he has served on
numerous panels and task forces related to school violence, professional
training standards, and youth mental health issues. For the past six years
he has also served as an advisory panel member on the California Healthy
Kids Survey project.
