Santa Barbara, CA (September 20, 2005) – On December 4 – 7, 2005 leaders, managers, parents, evaluators, and advocates who want to better understand and lead system and agency change will have a unique chance to increase the value and impact of their work. A three and a half day Community Leadership Institute serving private, public, and not-for-profit sectors will be held in Santa Barbara, California, imparting invaluable new tools for effective leadership in a changing environment.
A seasoned and esteemed faculty leads the training, from past Chief of the federal government’s national office for child and family mental health, to expert consultants specializing in leadership roles in systems of care, to parent advocates and industry-leading program evaluators.
“This Institute provides vital training that falls outside of the core skill set most of our attendees study to obtain their credentials, or that parents of children with special needs were ever trained for,” said Center for Community Leadership President Gary De Carolis and author of A View from the Balcony: Leadership Challenges in Systems of Care. “Subsequently, they find themselves facing the challenges of leadership without strategies or a roadmap to guide them. Our Institute offers them the tools they need to flourish in the face of these challenges.”
The Community Leadership Institute is sponsored by the Center for Community Leadership and is co-sponsored by Mosaic Network: The Evaluation Solutions Company. The Institute will be held on December 4 – 7, 2005 at the oceanfront Hotel Mar Monte, in Santa Barbara , California.

The latest version of GEMS, Mosaic’s revolutionary grant management and evaluation system, has gone live in Santa Barbara County.
The system supports over 50 voluntary childcare agencies and annually manages over $7M of First Five funds for Santa Barbara County Children & Families Commission.
The new version of GEMS includes a number of improvements and enhancements and is the result of over a year’s work by the Mosaic development team.
“The new system is designed to be easy to use and is based on research we completed with the agencies themselves. They are the people who use the system so we wanted the new version to meet their needs,” said Mosaic technology chief Prashant Rajvaidya.
New features include faster data entry, improved reporting and a new design. First 5 is a program to raise childcare funds through tobacco taxes in the State of California. Originally, called Proposition 10, Mosaic consultants have been involved with the program since 2000.
